The very first Move Forward project was back in 2014. After a small crowdfunding campaign a team of 6 volunteers went to Haiti to start a community project in Kenscoff. This became a successful basketball and dance program for 83 teenagers who just had to deal with an earthquake, hurricane and cholera outbreak. The last 11 years we have created many community projects in The Netherlands, Suriname, Kenya and Mexico.

AZC Workshop tour

For the past 11 years, we have been giving dance, sports, and music workshops and Block Parties in asylum seekers’ centers across the Netherlands. On each tour, Move Forward coaches run between 120 and 200 workshops including dance, basketball, rap, boxing and street gym. Reaching out to 1000-2000 teenagers each workshop tour at 30 to 40 different centers and emergency shelters.

Surinam

move foward surinam

In 2017 and 2018, we successfully carried out community projects in Suriname. In the summer of 2023, we made our comeback, which was warmly welcomed by many familiar faces. This encouragement inspired us to launch a fundraising campaign for a larger community project, which will begin as soon as enough funds are raised.

nike backyard program

In March 2023, Nike invited us to create a weekly program for Ukrainian refugees living in the shelter next to their European Headquarters in Hilversum. Over the past two years, we have provided dance, boxing, basketball, and street gym classes, creating a safe and active space for the community. In addition, we organized Backyard Events featuring music, dance, and sports demonstrations, which brought the children and adults together and created a positive atmosphere within the shelter.
